Avond CD: De Staat-Wait For Evolution
In 2009 is het vuurwerk nog niet gedoofd of De Staat laat de gitaren fijn tekeergaan. De band uit Nijmegen is donker, de stoner van Queens of The Stone Age is op het hele debuut hoorbaar. Oprichter Torre Florim, die bijna de hele plaat in z’n eentje inspeelde, heeft het bijpassende onheilspellende stemgeluid. Toch is Wait for Evolution niet gitzwart: rauwe blues en Prince-funk maakt een nummer als The Fantastic Journey of the Underground Man dansbaar. De Staat mag ook een bedankbriefje naar Tom Waits sturen, want percussioneel wordt de plaat overheerst door een potten-, pannen- en koebellengeluid. dEUS heeft de Nijmeegse band al meegenomen tijdens een tour in Groot-Brittannië, in eerste instantie vanwege die opvallende bandnaam, maar ook omdat de tegendraadsheid van De Staat erg Vlaams klinkt. 2009 begint niet met champagne, maar met een heerlijk straffe whisky.

Traditioneel komt Herrie aan het einde van het jaar met de eindejaarsuitzending, met daarin de beste platen van 2008, uitgezocht door Jaap, Gerrie en Ton (uitgezocht wil zeggen bij elkaar geschraapt en gejat). Dit 3 uur durend radio spektakel kun je horen op donderdag 11 december van 20.00-23.00 uur. Ton van Hoof zal naar alle waarschijnlijkheid het laatste uur mee presenteren (zo niet, dan zwaait er wat, Ton!). Misschien, heel misschien wordt er ook nog teruggekeken op het popnieuws van 2008. De muziek?
